all individuals should have the opportunity to experience the magnificent game of Golf and have

To further Maggie Hathaway’s Mission of creating; Junior, Adults, Seniors and Veteran
Golf Programs, in the Lower Income Inner Cities and beyond. Continue Maggie’s Community

1. When as a Sports Columnist for the Los Angeles Sentinel, Maggie was assigned to cover, Joe Louis, a good golfer and Ex-Heavyweight
Boxing Champion, at the Griffith Park Golf Course.
2. Maggie hit her ” FIRST ” Golf Shot, in 1955, with Boxing Champion Joe Louis, watching. Maggie was on Target, ever since.
3. Joe made a friendly Golf Bet with Maggie, who had Never Hit a Golf Ball, in her life. Joe missed hitting the green and bet Maggie, that
she couldn’t hit the green.

- In 1962, Maggie, a Local Golf Legend and Civil Rights Activist, Organized an NAACP Protest against the
Former Fox Hills Golf Course, for;
1.1 Not allowing African Americans to play on their Golf Course and the struggle Blacks went through to play Golf,
in the City of Los Angeles.
2. Maggie’s message was simple, ” Discrimination In Golf “,,, Must Go!
3. Maggie’s Picket Line Destroyed the Fox Hills Golf Club. Home Savings, who owned the Golf Course, ended up building
apartments on the land of the Golf Course.
4. Maggie Fought for Civil Rights on Golf Courses, and on Movie Lots of Southern California, for more than 40 years.
