  • Maggie was denied Membership in the Western Ave. Women’s Golf Club because of her Color.  Maggie met with Western Ave. Officials that turned out to be, futile.

  • Maggie took her concerns to the County, where she was helped by the late L. A. County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, to Tear Down the Walls of Racism, that had been Built Around the Western Ave. Women’s Golf Club, and the Public Course as well.

  • Supervisor Hahn eventually closed Western Ave. and Re-Opened it later with a New and more Enlightened Management, and eventually a New Name,,, Chester Washington Golf Course.

  • Supervisor Hahn also reopened the former Racist Management doors of the Golf Club to Maggie, who was still being denied.

  • After Maggie gained membership in the Golf Club, Maggie had to Sue the Larger Golf Association that granted every other member of Western Ave.,,, and Maggie Won that Suit and continued to Fight against Forms of Discrimination.
  • In the Photo above, L.A. County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, Celebrates with Maggie, at Chester Washington Golf Course.

  • Years after;  Demonstrations, Piicketing, & Lawsuits by Maggie against Discriminatory Practices at Western Ave. Golf Course, [ renamed to Chester Washington Golf Course ], A Junior Golfers Green was Dedicated to Maggie and her, ” MAG ” [ Minority Associated Golfers ] Organization, as illustrated on the sign above, behind Mr. Hahn & Maggie.

  • As time passed the County of Los Angeles Renamed a Nine-Hole Par Three Golf Course in Jesse Owens Park, where Maggie once worked as a,,, Starter.  Maggie said her only Regret was that her Champion Kenneth Hahn, passed away 2 weeks before the Golf Course was Dedicated to Maggie.

  • The 1960’s were vitally instrumental in bringing Golf to the African American Community.  Drive like Maggie’s has made Golf Courses and Golf Clubs end their Discriminatory Practices.  Maggie was also very Instrumental in opening Job Opportunities for all Minorities, at all levels, at Golf Courses.
